1. I see order and complexity in life and the universe that bespeaks a Creator. The fact that many consider this to be open to debate does not mean that it is irrational for me to believe this. It’s not “wishful thinking” on my part. I feel compelled by the evidence. It would be an understatement to say the delusional contortions people go through to avoid interpreting the evidence in the same way does not satisfy my intellect. To each his own.
2. While Jews and Muslims, etc, may also believe the above, I am a Christian because I see the harmony of the Scriptures, Old and New, and their coherent message. I see the fulfillment of Scriptures on the pages of history and the outworking of the Divine plan over the centuries. I see the truth of the Scriptures borne out in the lives of individuals and humanity collectively. Because others cannot see this so clearly, should I limit my understanding to match theirs or accept their charge of having a “blind faith”?
3. Personal experience is not much of an argument, one way or the other. People of any religion or belief can have experiences that seem to support their belief. But it stands to reason that if one’s faith is to be of any practical benefit, it would carry over into this realm and I am no exception to this. Answers to prayer when your back is against the wall have a way of letting you know which side your bread is buttered on. Having the worldview that I do, my perspective is vastly different than it would otherwise be and I’m better off for it. It’s a provision of Scripture that “Unto the upright, there ariseth light in the darkness.” Isn’t that a blessing, to see light where others see only darkness?
